I tend to think that hope is a choice or a posture. So choosing to put my hope in things that do not actually last. Or won't happen. Or won't be good for anyone other than me. Things that provide very temporary pleasure at the expense of long-term goodness. Believing that something that has never worked for the greater good might actually do so. Or giving my hope to someone who makes empty promises.
