Matthew 20:29-34 | Psalm 46:1-3 | Gospels in Lent Track: John 13-14
They’re blind. Outcast. Supposedly unable to do anything. They ask for help anyway.
The crowd tells them to be quiet. They get louder.
Their persistence is noteworthy. Would you do the same?
Many people don’t want to bother. And the way society responds, can you blame them?
Jesus’ example is for his people.
Matthew 20:29-34
As Jesus and his disciples were going out of Jericho a large crowd followed him. When two blind men sitting along the road heard that Jesus was passing by, they shouted, “Show us mercy, Lord, Son of David!”
Now the crowd scolded them and told them to be quiet. But they shouted even louder, “Show us mercy, Lord, Son of David!”
Jesus stopped in his tracks and called to them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
“Lord, we want to see,” they replied.
Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they were able to see, and they followed him.
Psalm 46:1-3
God is our refuge and strength,
a help always near in times of great trouble.
That’s why we won’t be afraid when the world falls apart,
when the mountains crumble into the center of the sea,
when its waters roar and rage,
when the mountains shake because of its surging waves.
Prayer
God,
Help me to hear those around me as you do. I know that people pray a lot to you. Help me be the answer to prayer.
By your Spirit & in Christ,
Amen.
Yessss!! It’s strange that people would try to keep the sick from the healer, but I think we as humans can be quick to judge. We can’t let the dirty, loud, different than us people taint the freedom and peace that Jesus gave us. But what I’ve learned is, the only way to keep that peace and freedom is to point everyone towards the power of love, of God, welcoming all to join in this kingdom with us, The Strong, The Tempted, and The Weak!!
