Luke 6:46-49 | Micah 6:6-8
Sometimes we can overcomplicate what it is to follow Jesus.
Then a passage like this one comes along and his clarity is hard to miss. Either we try to follow him or we don’t. Of course, there are moments and situations where WWJD isn’t exactly obvious. (This is besides the point that WWJD isn’t what he asks of us as much as WWJHMD is - What would Jesus have me do?)
But let’s not overcomplicate it. Jesus’ law is simple at its core - love God, love others.
Luke 6:46-49
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and don’t do what I say? I’ll show what it’s like when someone comes to me, hears my words, and puts them into practice. It’s like a person building a house by digging deep and laying the foundation on bedrock. When the flood came, the rising water smashed against that house, but the water couldn’t shake the house because it was well built. But those who don’t put into practice what they hear are like a person who built a house without a foundation. The floodwater smashed against it and it collapsed instantly. It was completely destroyed.”
Micah 6:6-8
With what should I approach the Lord
and bow down before God on high?
Should I come before him with entirely burned offerings,
with year-old calves?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with many torrents of oil?
Should I give my oldest child for my crime;
the fruit of my body for the sin of my spirit?
He has told you, human one, what is good and
what the Lord requires from you:
to do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with your God.
Prayer
God,
Help me to be like Jesus by knowing and doing what he says.
By your spirit & in Christ,
Amen.
