Beginning Again
Amidst all the stuff, seeking to focus on Christ each and every day.
Christ maintains everything with his powerful message.
Maintains everything.
These are the words of the writer of Hebrews. While the Bible has 66 books and each is important for different reasons, the gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John - all tell us the most about Jesus himself. This is how and why www.JesusDaily.life began - to focus most especially on the person of Jesus himself. His life, his teachings, his example.
So we begin again!
Tomorrow is January 1st and as we have for three years now, we’ll begin a journey through the four gospels over the next eleven months.
There are a lot of bible reading plans out there - a lot! - and many of them are great. Some are not so great. I certainly don’t mean to project that this is the best, but several years ago, I determined that reading through the gospels each year was a necessity if I truly wanted to follow Jesus. With the plethora of resources available to us today, it is all too easy to become distracted and focused on the wrong thing(s).
So you are invited to join in this year. The group reading these daily passages, reflections, and prayers has slowly grown to a few hundred.
Each day, a gospel passage is paired with some other passage of scripture. This year, we’re forward this year to emphasizing the Sermon on the Mount and the book of Hebrews, among a couple of other smaller emphases.
Before we begin tomorrow, read what that ancient writer had to say about Christ:
Hebrews 1:1-4
In the past, God spoke through the prophets to our ancestors in many times and many ways. In these final days, though, he spoke to us through a Son. God made his Son the heir of everything and created the world through him. The Son is the light of God’s glory and the imprint of God’s being. He maintains everything with his powerful message. After he carried out the cleansing of people from their sins, he sat down at the right side of the highest majesty.
