This extra post is not a devotional one, so feel free to ignore it if you like. But I want to share a bit about what’s coming with Jesus Daily and make an invitation to you.
We are about to enter the third calendar year of this effort. When I began Jesus Daily, my hope was to provide a daily reflection and prayer on a gospel text. Frankly, I’m still a person of faith because of the person of Jesus. I wanted to focus on him, his story, and his person as formative for my daily life.
I still want that.
So we’re going to keep going.
The snobbish, seasoned theologian in me still finds the title, Jesus Daily, to be a bit hokey. I’m sure it’s off-putting to many. And yet, it does encapsulate what the whole thing is supposed to do. And I believe it might be attractive to a certain subset of people who are all set with the Church and yet attracted to Jesus.
As the group has grown, it seems like the daily entries resonate with a number of people and I’m hopeful it might with even more. You may have noticed that I’ve changed the rhythm and seasonal schedule a bit since we first began. What we all know is that people tend to want to do new things with a new year (resolutions and all of that). Yet, the story of Jesus cycles differently than our calendars. So the way it tends to work now is that I do make sure we complete all four gospels between January 1 (halfway through the season of Christmas) and the beginning of Advent (around the end of November). There’s nothing eternally salvific or heavenly prerequisite in doing so, but it seems a good thing to do if we want to focus on the fullness of Jesus’ example in the Bible.
All that said, I know that the greatest hope for getting these entries to more people is to invite them for the new year. This year, I’m daring to think about spending some money to do so on social media (FB and Instagram). This is my invitation to you: If you would want to help support this effort of advertising on social media, you can do so through Venmo or Paypal. If even more comes in, I may even consider setting up an automated daily post on TikTok.
Either way, thank you for even reading this far and for reading daily. It does me so good to know that people are with me every day - reading, seeking, praying, hoping…
As far as snobbish theologians, there are other devotional called Jesus Daily, and even an organization, Jesus daily.org., delivering the Word, so it seems it’s catchy enough to attract many!
Jeremy,
I think it is a good idea to connect with more readers by running the ads. I sent some money by Zelle that should be deposited in your bank account tomorrow. Let me know if it doesn't show up. Blessings for the new year with Jesus Daily!
