Have you ever wondered why God didn’t just show up at a fully grown man? Or even why God chose to be human at all? You can find theological treatises on such questions and perhaps they are helpful to you. But in then end, it’s possible to see it simply as a movement of love.
Many find God of the concept of a divine being in the heavens to be untouchable, distant, or even cold. The Christian story of God entering the world through humanity is of a particular notion. When we consider the things of sex, a birthing room, the simple complexities of a baby and all involved there, a young mother and father, and so on…we can see ourselves in the situation.
Do you think God was intentional with such a move?
Luke 1:34-35
Then Mary said to the angel, “How will this happen since I haven’t had sexual relations with a man?”
The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come over you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the one who is to be born will be holy. He will be called God’s Son.
Isaiah 42:1-4
But here is my servant, the one I uphold;
my chosen, who brings me delight.
I’ve put my spirit upon him;
he will bring justice to the nations.
He won’t cry out or shout aloud
or make his voice heard in public.
He won’t break a bruised reed;
he won’t extinguish a faint wick,
but he will surely bring justice.
He won’t be extinguished or broken
until he has established justice in the land.
The coastlands await his teaching.
Prayer
God,
Honestly, I’m just tired today.
Did Mary get tired? I have to and want to assume she did. I know Jesus did. Thank you for making the story so touchable and understandable.
Help me to face this day.
By your spirit & in Christ,
Amen.
